How can Chiropractic help your Nervous System?

Nov 9, 2022 | Chiropractic Care

In this blog we will break down 6 key things.

What is the nervous system?

The nervous system includes the brain, spinal cord, and a complex network of nerves. This system sends messages back and forth between the brain and the body. The brain is what controls all the body’s functions. The spinal cord runs from the brain down through the back.

What does the nervous system do?

The nervous system is responsible for sending messages from the brain to the body, and back from the body

It plays a role in nearly every aspect of our health and well-being. It guides everyday activities such as waking up; automatic activities such as breathing; and complex processes such as thinking, reading, remembering, and feeling emotions.

The nervous system controls:

  • Brain growth and development
  • Healing and rehabilitation
  • Movement, balance, and coordination
  • Sensations (such as touch or hearing)
  • Perception (the mental process of interpreting sensory information)
  • Thought and emotions
  • Learning and memory
  • Stress and the body’s responses to stress
  • Sleep
  • Aging
  • Breathing and heartbeat
  • Body temperature
  • Hunger, thirst, and digestion
  • Puberty, reproductive health, and fertility

Why a well-functioning nervous system is so important

Your nervous system is the single most important organ system in your body! Without it, nothing else would work.

Your nervous system controls EVERYTHING! You can think of it as the Conductor in a symphony orchestra, without the conductor instruments would be off key and playing in disharmony.

Some systems in the body that the nervous system controls

  • Cardiovascular system (heart)
  • Digestive system
  • Respiratory system (lungs)
  • Reproductive system
  • Skeletal system
  • Immune system

And many more!

Without a nervous system none of these other systems would be able to coordinate themselves or do their jobs meaning we simply would not survive.

This is why a healthy functioning nervous system is so important for us. Life is about thriving, not just surviving.

Chiropractic help your Nervous System

What does Chiropractic have to do with the nervous system?

A Chiropractor’s purpose is to ensure your spine and your nervous system are functioning optimally. Chiropractors are highly trained to locate the nerves in your body that are not functioning at 100% capacity, this may happen due to spinal misalignment or spinal “subluxations” as we like to call them. Subluxations are characterised by the misalignment of a vertebra compared to the segments above and below in the spinal column. The consequent compression and damage of misalignment leads to malfunction of organs at end of the nerve fibres.

If you experience a symptom whether it be pain, digestive upset, brain fog, hormonal issues etc, a Chiropractor will identify if a spinal subluxation is the cause or contributing factor and will then help guide you back to optimal health.

How do I know if my spine needs to be checked by a Chiropractor?

Spinal adjustments (restoring normal movement to a subluxated vertebrae) improve your nervous system function – signs that your nervous system is in disarray are often found by examining the spine. This is what chiropractors do.

Every symptom you experience is your body’s way of trying to alert you that something isn’t quite right, we need to learn to listen to the signals our body sends us. For example, if you have a headache, a niggle in your lower back, a burning sensation in your hands or feet, your digestion is irregular, you get mood swings, or you’re always sick – these may be subtle signs you’re your nervous system is overloaded and isn’t functioning properly. A visit to see a chiropractor may help

Think about it this way: If your cars petrol light came on, and you ignored it what would happen? Your engine would eventually stop running, and the car would breakdown. The symptoms you experience are all clues to show you that something isn’t working, we need to address these issues before (just like a car) our bodies breakdown. If we leave lingering symptoms for too long this is where we can expect symptoms to get much worse and it often becomes harder to resolve the initial problem as others start to arise.

Does Chiropractic care help improve nervous system function?

We know that chiropractic adjustments (restoring movement and function back to the spine) can help improve your nervous system. I hope by now you’ve learnt that your spine and nervous system are incredibly important!

Problems in your spine may lead to the symptoms you are experiencing, and it is very important to get these checked before they get worse, or other problems arise!

If you are not sure if Chiropractic can help you, it’s worth contacting us at Avia Chiropractic and asking the question. We offer a complimentary discussion with our chiropractors to figure out if chiropractic is right for you, and if we can help you.
